Improving Traffic & Finding A Niche
About a month ago when I saw my serge of traffic after signing up with MyBlogLog I thought the next thing for me to go for was social book marking. This is something that I can do! So, I visited all the sites I knew about, signed up, went through whatever process, created my profiles, and stopped.
Did I hit a brick wall?
No, just got lazy.
I haven’t really heard a lot of people say “Digg my post it gets me lots of traffic.†So while it sounds like a good idea in my head I’m thinking ah, whatever. When I have time.
Yesterday Mindy sends me a blog post about one of the social book marking sites, Stumble Upon. You’ve heard of it, right?
Well, I had already signed up with Stumble Upon last month in my search for the great traffic serge (whatever), I downloaded their toolbar, quickly took it out of my sight when I’m surfing and let it sit.
After reading this blog post I’m inspired to get back in the game. At least with Stumble Upon anyway. I highly suggest that you take a minute to have a look at it.
There are so many blogs that I read that say basically the same thing “find a niche.†And what I don’t have is a niche and I’m not sure I want one.
Today I may be talking to you about improving your traffic and what I’m doing to make a difference while tomorrow I’m going to tell you about something funny I think my kid did.
It’s all a matter of my perspective. So, this morning I decided that I would have a niche for my site, it’s fairly simple and really really specific: ME!
That’s right, it’s my damn blog so I’m going to blog about me since that’s what I’ve done since the first day I started blogging.
Hey, I’m not looking to create an empire here. Nor do I want the biggest most recognized blog on the web. I just want a little following of people that says we’re not only reading but we give a damn if you blog or not.
I think I’ve got that now.
For now I feel like there are only 2 things left for me to accomplish with this blog, other than continuing to post because I love doing that…
I want a 4 to 6 page rank (currently I’m at a 3). And I’m going to do whatever I’ve got to do to work on that.
The other is to improve my Alexa ranking. While I find Alexa to be overall useless in determining any real traffic stats, there are many advertisers who feel that it’s important. But I think those who surf with a toolbar are by far not the majority. But whatever, for now, it’s what I’ve got to do and I’ll do that.
In the meantime, the niche is going to be real simple. Everyone wants a voice in the world, this is mine.

I don’t get much traffic from Stumble. To go even further I don’t think the Stumblers do much other then glance and hit the stumble button.
As for PR. Good luck. I hit 4, but am having a hard time getting to 5.

I think for Stumble you also have to get involved in the social aspect for it to improve hit numbers. I think you have to join the groups and be active in them. The groups that you join should probably have something to do with the topic(s) that you blog about frequently too. I’m just getting started with Stumble, so I’m not really sure how much it actually helps with hit numbers. Last month (July) I only had one hit from Stumble and about 75+ directly from MyBlogLog. I spend a lot more time with MyBlogLog though.

I’m with you. My niche is myself. Quite frankly, I no longer care about traffic. So what if my PR is only 3. I saw it at 5 for a few hours, courtesy of Blogathon, and that was good enough for me. I get a few through MyBlogLog, but not that many. At least not any to really make a difference or see any comments from it, XD. I’m more into the comments than the traffic anyway, XD
