2008 Goals vs Resolutions
Posted on December 29, 2007 by Katy
It’s funny how people seem to no longer make resolutions for the New Year. Instead they call them goals so that no one feels like crap when they aren’t accomplished.
Really, how many people every year set resolutions that come February 1st, they have long forgotten? Do we have any idea what the percentage rate is for the spike in business for fitness centers this time of year?
I’ll bet they’re making fat bank.
So, to not be some kind of jerk I’ll let you know that on December 31, 2007 I’m going to quit smoking. And I’m telling myself that it’s not a resolution, it’s a goal. And I’m only choosing that day because it sounds like a good day.
The truth is that I’ve been trying to get myself to quit smoking for the last 2 ½ years but my problem is I simply enjoy it too much.
Few things are better than a cup of coffee and a smoke in the morning… standing out on my patio with that hot Nevada sun blazing straight at my face. This only to come back inside feeling like I had just spent an hour out there running some sort of marathon.
Oh yeah. That’s my reason for quitting. Well, that and the fact that I have a child and want more and possibility because it’s good for me too.
But I’m getting way off track.
With the New Year quickly approaching I’ve been reading a lot of blogs who are posting their goals for their blogs and what they hope to accomplish in the New Year.
It’s a good idea but I’d like to think that I’m working on goals for my blog all the time. As I’m sure these other bloggers are as well.
I’ll follow suit though.
Here’s a few things I’d like to see happen in 2008 with I’m Blogging That (and me). While I’ll work towards them, even if not reached I can hardly compel myself to feel as though I failed over it.
• Blog at least 3 times a week bringing back a little of that me style that got a little lost along the way when I started blogging about online news and not me.
• Increase unique hits to 3,000 per month.
• Increase page views to 1,000 per day.
• Reach PageRank 4 (I’m placing this in the hands of Google but I certainly have more SEO work to do… all of which I’ll share as I’m doing it).
• Hit 500 RSS Subscribers… I’m sure that I’ll have to have some way better content then I do now unless people just naturally think that I’m funny, or stupid, or maybe I actually give some good tips and commentary.
• Visit more blogs to get better news at what people are thinking, feeling, and reacting to online.
• Social network in new places (did you notice my social networking icons down below yet)?
• Create a couple of contents and/or free goodies for doing something really fun!
So, are you setting blogging goals for 2008? What are they?
