Keeping Up Your Technorati Rating

technoratiiconTech-no-rati?

With Blogging becoming very popular in the internet world today, although it may be done for different reasons.  Some people blog on several different blogging posts just for fun and to meet new people that share their interests. Others, however, are blogging as a way to make money online.  These are the individuals that have to spend more time and energy having the right blogging methods so their blogs or advertisements show up more on the internet.  Blogs can be given certain rating points based on how effective they are.  Two popular ratings are Technorati rating and Alexa rating (I’ll cover this in a follow up post).  Let’s get into what this ratings represent so we can work on ways to improve them.

We’re all familiar with search engines such as Yahoo or Google.  When you’re searching for something you type it in a Google search engine.  Hundreds and typically thousands of results are going to show up for you.  The results that show up on top are usually said to be the most effective or “highest ranked”.  How high they rank on the search engines has to do with the proper keyword usage, etc.  SEO (search engine optimization) has a lot to do with making your ads show up on top of the search engine results so users see them first. The same principles go with blogging as a way to make money online.

Technorati is to blogging what Google ranks are to search engines. The world of blogging can easily be described as the “blogosphere” and Technorati is a tracker of the millions of blogs that are posted each day on the blogosphere.  It keeps track of which blogs are linking to other blog sites, etc.  It then ranks the blogs in the same way as Google ranks the results of Google search engines.  There are ways that you can increase your Technorati ranking so your blog links will show up quicker for others to see.  It’s important to remember that your Technorati ranking is not based on how many viewers you have to your blog but more on the number of incoming links your blog receives.  Known as “blog reactions”, they refer to the number of blogs that have linked to yours over a certain period of time.

With the millions of blogs being posted out there, a goal for your blogs should be a ranking of less than 50,000, obviously the lower the better.  Having a good relationship with other blog sites and bloggers is a great way to improve your Technorati ranking.  The Technorati page can give you many helpful suggestions on improving your own ranking, starting with exchanging links with other blog posts, I’m Blogging That… What are you blogging?

I believe the guy who wrote the first comment is trying to hijack my spot on top commentators (but seemed to have failed).

Anyways, Technorati hasn't really meant much to me until not too long ago. I've been trying to get some pretty decent rankings on it but so far I haven't had much luck. I'm going to keep on trying though. As for Alexa rank, I don't think that much people pay a lot of attention to it. I think Technorati is looked at more.

As for me really I didn't pay much attention to Alexa ranking and so did the others, that's great that such posts as this one draws stress on the points and explaines everything in details so that the readers begin to realize the difference comparing the things.Thank you for enlightening.

Google analytic is the most powerful tool which is used for making money online. I guess it is not that easy to get profits in this.

If you think you may have this blog for a long time, consider hosting it with your own domain name. All our motto of bloggers is to make money while blogging. Thanks for sharing the views.

Great description of Technorati and it's significance to bloggers! I've just started consciously trying to improve my ranking and with help from articles like this, hopefully it won't take as long as blindly stumbling through the blogosphere ;)

Thanks again for another helpful article for a beginner!

I'm wondering if Technorati counts ALL incoming links or only those from blogs that are also in Technorati. Do you know? Also, have you posted about any ways to ethically increase Technorati ratings?

Thank you for this post! @Internet Strategist: Technorati Authority is the number of blogs (not the number of links) linking to you in the last six months. Blogs don't have to be members of Technorati to have an Authority number or for their links to count. But, if you have claimed your blog with Technorati, we are able to process your pings faster since we already know who you are.

You can find more info on Technorati Authority here: http://support.technorati.com/faq/topic/71

I signed up for Technorati, and do post on other similar blogs. It seems to be difficult to get people to post on mine. Should I assume from this that I am not writing what people want to read? How do we know what our readers want anyway if they don't blog to tell us?

    This is all very confusing…

I don't like Technorati. They steal my unique content. Even after I deleted my account the continued to do that.

Hm, can tehnocrati also rank the pages that are not blogs? and how do they differentiate the blog content from other content??? still a bit fuzzy on this ;)

Btw nice blog and nice theme :)

Achieving a good Technorati rating is important, but it should not be the aim focus or a serious goal.

    Till then,

think that because technorati has so many blogs with so few links that those first links you get will result in the biggest ranking increase.

echnorati is an Internet search engine for searching blogs. By June 2008, Technorati was indexing 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media.[2] The name Technorati is a blend of the words technology and literati, which invokes the notion of technological intelligence or intellectualism.

Technorati was founded by Dave Sifry and its headquarters are in San Francisco, California, USA. Tantek Çelik was the site's Chief Technologist.

Technorati uses and contributes to open source software. Technorati has an active software developer community, many of them from open-source culture. Sifry is a major open-source advocate, and was a founder of LinuxCare and later of Wi-Fi access point software developer Sputnik. Technorati includes a public developer's wiki, where developers and contributors collaborate, also various open APIs.

The site won the SXSW 2006 awards for Best Technical Achievement and also Best of Show.[3] It was also nominated for a 2006 Webby Award for Best Practices, but lost to Flickr and Google Maps.[4]

I appreciate your opinion on "having a good relationship with other bloggers…" That's a good thing, though it may be difficult to do that and write very interesting blogs at the same time. For one thing, many bloggers are guilty of some of the very things we discuss, or disparage in our blogs. Keeping them happy enough to give us some link juice, while exposing their shortcomings may be a tad difficult. It's worth a try though.
