Alexa i a great source of information, I use it a lot. Sometimes for my work but also for my own interest. I really like the ranking for each country, which shows who are the 100 most important sites. For example, If I am looking for the number one information site in any Spain or so.

I heard some rumors that Alexa is no longer matter "of Success indications"Google PR and link popularity checker is more considered "sign of success"more over with only buying $100 from PTC kind of service :new site can get a high page rank at Alexa considerations,but it is Zero at PR ,and with zero at PR ,I have my faith the site is absolutely hard to monetize

Alexa Ranking isnt very accuarte due to it only gathering information from people using the Alexa toolbar, i suggest everybody downloads it for free from thier website.

I find the Alexa rankings to be pretty inaccurate. I've seen sites with high amounts of visitors rank a lot worse than sites with very little visitors.

I think the best way to use Alexa Ranking is to use it as a measuring stick for how much traffic a site has the potential off. Example… if you want to go after the keyword "coca cola" then you see what the #1 website has for a ranking… and you can see the potentials from there, hehe.

just a tip I have found in my new adventure of trying out my first online e commerce site. One thing I read was to have your PR checker tool bar installed and go to blog forums like digg and look for the oldest posts. which actually have a PR or 4-6 depending post your info there and they say it helps not sure on it yet but if any one knows or if this helps any one good luck

I think that alexa ranking will grow automatically as your site gets more traffic so the point is in having more traffic and then the alexa ranking will automatically change :)
You cant modify the ranking artificially… hehe i think its like trying to change the scale on a thermometer in order to increase the heat in the room :P

I find Alexa to be very confusing. How do you know if you're doing well? It seems that even a relatively high numeric rating in Alexa means that you're being successful with SEO, but I wish there was a chart with ranges and their meanings.

Alexa, much like Google PR, isn't my major concern but it does definitely help you get noticed. If someone can see that you're dipping in the low numbers (meaning good), they're much more likely to jump on board and perhaps buy your blog if you ever choose to sell it.
